What is the LIP-ISI Japanese
Language Study Program 2024?

This program is a partnership program between Living in Peace’s (LIP) Refugee Project and ISI Japanese Language Institute (ISI) to support refugees living in Japan in various studies to improve their employment, living and living conditions in order to become more self-reliant.

LIP has been offering an online, Japanese language education program, LIP-Learning, since 2019; ISI has established a special scholarship program since FY2022 to provide free Japanese language education to prospective students who are unable to study or find employment in their country of residence due to war or conflict.

LIP-ISI Japanese Language Study Program 2024 is a program to study Japanese language by attending ISI Japanese Language School (offline). This program is different from the online “LIP-Learning” program in that students actually attend ISI Japanese language school. We first launched this program in January of last year, enabling six individuals with refugee backgrounds to start learning Japanese at ISI. This year marks the second iteration of the program.
